As the second year of the publication of the Journal of Country Studies draws to a close, a brief report on the status of articles submitted to the journal from spring 2023 to January 2025 is presented. This report aims to further introduce the journal to the academic community and serve as a guiding light for its planners and stakeholders, helping them more effectively and efficiently deliver the latest research findings of scholars to the academic audience.
The Journal of Country Studies published its first issue in spring 2023 with a quarterly frequency (four issues per year, totaling eight issues and 50 articles in 2023 and 2024). Currently (January 2025), 63 published articles are available on the journal's website. The latest issue, Volume 3, Issue 1, is from spring 2025, and five complete articles are in Article in Press. The journal is indexed in seven databases, including DOAJ. According to Google Scholar (Figure 1), over two years since the journal's inception, articles published in the journal have been cited 24 times (Table 5).
Figure 1. Image of the Journal of Country Studies page on Google Scholar in January 1403
The most-viewed articles of this journal are listed in Table 4. A comparison of Tables 4 and 5 reveals that three of the five most-viewed articles (the top three in Table 4) have been cited; however, they do not necessarily rank among the most-cited articles.
The data in Table 5 and Figure 1 highlight another noteworthy point: it appears that even Persian-speaking researchers prioritize searching in English over Persian. Most citations are to the English equivalents of the articles, despite the Journal of Country Studies being a Persian-language journal with both short and extended abstracts in English. A search for the journal's articles in the Publish or Perish database further confirms this finding (Figure 2).
Although reputable indexing platforms such as DOAJ and Scopus evaluate and index journals in various languages—many of which are both highly viewed and frequently cited—within Persian-language domestic journals, there is a stronger emphasis on the English section compared to journals in other languages. This trend risks further weakening the corpus of scientific language in Persian, particularly if the proliferation of specialized terminology—especially in keywords, titles, and abstracts—is not addressed with proper editing and precision.

The journal’s specific attention to the references section during the peer review and editing stages is another critical factor aimed at strengthening the scientific framework and citations within the Journal of Country Studies.
In the coming year, the Journal of Country Studies will publish 8 articles in each issue, with the aim of increasing visibility and indexing in other international databases. It will accept articles from researchers and professors.
