The security strategies of the German trading state after the Ukraine war

Abstract

Undoubtedly, the war in Ukraine has caused important changes in the strategies of many European governments, especially the Federal Republic of Germany. In this article, using the analytical approach of Rosecrans' trading and military states, the changes in Germany's defense and security strategies will be explained following Russia's attack on Ukraine. The main question is that following Russia's attack on Ukraine, what factors caused changes in Germany's defense strategies and what effect did these changes have on Germany's trading state? The tested hypothesis is that the war in Ukraine has influenced the change of attitude of the German elite and the movement of this country towards the political-military world. The findings of the research show that although things such as the intensification of anarchy in the last decade of the international system and especially the occurrence of events such as the Ukraine war, have caused Germany to move towards territorial-military governments, however, this country is still in the heart of commercial governments and these changes are mostly in the strategies and not the nature of the government. Also, there are things such as the future of this war, the approach of the new Trump administration towards the major issues of the international system and the position of right-wingers in the new German governments, which will determine whether Germany will remain among the trading states or gradually fall into the group of political-military governments. The method of conducting analytical-explanatory research and the method of data collection is also library-based.
